The production is deliberately raw and obscured, as if the album had been recorded deep within a damp catacomb beneath the surface of the earth. Piercing vocals echo through repetitive riff patterns, while synthesizers and ambient textures linger in the background throughout the album.
Atmosphere is undoubtedly Vampyriia’s greatest strength. Tracks such as Viper Venom and Dragon Necromancy succeed in creating a suffocating and almost trance-like aura. The combination of primitive black metal and dark ambient passages often proves highly effective. At its strongest moments, the album feels like the soundtrack to a forgotten vampiric cult gathering beneath a blood-red moon to perform forbidden rites.
However, the limitations of this approach gradually become apparent. While the atmosphere remains consistently strong, the album often lacks compositions that truly leave a lasting impression. Many of the riffs serve primarily as vehicles for mood rather than memorable musical statements. As a result, the songs frequently blend into one another without producing clear highlights or standout moments. The repetition, initially hypnotic, eventually begins to work against the album, reducing its overall sense of momentum.
Originality is another area where Luxuria Sanguis Plenilunium leaves mixed impressions. The influences of atmospheric and ambient-driven black metal are unmistakable, yet Vampyriia rarely transforms them into something distinctly his own. The album is competently executed and clearly driven by a genuine passion for the genre, but it adds little that feels truly new to a style that has been explored extensively for decades.
That said, devotees of deeply underground and uncompromising black metal will find much to appreciate here. Those seeking technical sophistication, innovation, or particularly strong songwriting may be left wanting more. Listeners who value atmosphere, occultism, and a genuine underground spirit, however, will discover an album fully immersed in its own dark and shadowy universe.
With Luxuria Sanguis Plenilunium, Vampyriia once again delivers a record that feels more like a ritualistic experience than a collection of songs. The atmosphere is impressive, the intent sincere, and the execution consistent. At the same time, the lack of variation and distinctive songwriting prevents the album from truly rising above the vast sea of underground black metal releases.

Met Luxuria Sanguis Plenilunium zet hij die koers onverminderd voort.
Vanaf Language Of Baphomet wordt de luisteraar ondergedompeld in een wereld van vampirische romantiek, nachtelijke rituelen en duistere mystiek. De productie is doelbewust ruw en mistig, alsof het album werd opgenomen in een vochtige catacombe ver onder de bewoonde wereld. Schelle vocalen galmen door repetitieve riffpatronen, terwijl synths en ambientlagen voortdurend op de achtergrond aanwezig blijven.
Sfeer is zonder twijfel het sterkste wapen van Vampyriia. Nummers als Viper Venom en Dragon Necromancy slagen erin een beklemmende en bijna tranceachtige atmosfeer op te roepen. De combinatie van primitieve black metal en donkere ambientpassages werkt vaak bijzonder effectief. Toch openbaren zich na verloop van tijd ook de beperkingen van deze aanpak. Waar de sfeer consequent sterk blijft, ontbreekt het regelmatig aan composities die werkelijk blijven hangen. Veel riffs functioneren vooral als dragers van atmosfeer en ontwikkelen zich nauwelijks verder. De nummers vloeien daardoor geregeld in elkaar over zonder duidelijke hoogtepunten of memorabele momenten achter te laten. De herhaling, die aanvankelijk hypnotiserend werkt, begint tegen het einde van het album eerder als een rem op de spanningsopbouw te functioneren.
Ook op het vlak van originaliteit laat Luxuria Sanguis Plenilunium een gemengd gevoel achter. De invloeden van atmosferische en ambientgerichte black metal zijn overduidelijk aanwezig, maar zelden weet Vampyriia deze om te vormen tot iets dat echt onderscheidend aanvoelt. De plaat is competent uitgevoerd en ademt passie voor het genre, maar voegt slechts beperkt nieuwe elementen toe aan een stijl die inmiddels al decennia bestaat.
Dat neemt niet weg dat liefhebbers van diep ondergrondse, compromisloze black metal hier veel plezier aan kunnen beleven. Wie op zoek is naar technische verfijning, vernieuwingsdrang of sterke individuele composities zal waarschijnlijk minder overtuigd raken. Wie echter waarde hecht aan sfeer, occultisme en een onmiskenbaar undergroundgevoel, vindt in Luxuria Sanguis Plenilunium een werk dat volledig opgaat in zijn eigen duistere universum.
Vampyriia levert opnieuw een album af dat meer aanvoelt als een rituele ervaring dan als een verzameling songs. De atmosfeer is indrukwekkend, de intentie oprecht en de uitvoering consequent. Tegelijkertijd verhindert het gebrek aan variatie en onderscheidende composities dat deze plaat werkelijk boven het overvolle undergroundaanbod uitstijgt.
