The Dutch black metal scene has long since secured its place on the international stage. This past weekend once again proved that point with a joint performance by three bands at the Sound Dog in Breda. Since Monday is, after all, a regular workday, the organizers opted for an afternoon matinee.
Each band managed to captivate the audience with its own sound, unique atmosphere, and distinctive way of conveying its message. The contrast between the styles created an intense dynamic that made the performance all the more memorable.
To further mark this special occasion, co-organizer WolfKult Religion released a promotional cassette made exclusively for the event. This rare release not only serves as a tangible keepsake of the concert but also highlights the enduring dedication and creativity within the Dutch black metal scene.
Salacious Gods opens the cassette with two live tracks previously released through WolfKult Religion on the compilation album A Chrestomathy of Blasphemous Supremacy (late 2024). Two solid black metal bangers, with Dooi’n Polka in particular leaving a lasting impression.
Next up is Kjeld. The Frisians, led by their imposing frontman, had already made a deep impact during Sunday’s performance, and they deliver once again on this tape. Their contribution consists of two exclusive live tracks, recorded at Club Iduna in Drachten during their 2024 show. Both songs are taken from their most recent album Ôfstân (2021), presented here in raw, powerful live renditions.
Finally, we have Hellevaerder. They may have opened the concert in Breda, but they close the cassette with two tracks from their 2018 debut EP, which was reissued in a limited CD-r run in 2022. Their contribution provides a fitting and fiery conclusion to this special release.
A great bonus to an already outstanding Sunday afternoon in Breda, where all three bands convincingly showed what they’re made of. Whether this cassette will be available outside the concert is something to check with the label, but one thing is certain: this small document of the Dutch black metal scene is absolutely worth getting your hands on.
