Dutch extreme metal band Heathen Peace emerged in 2024 as a no-compromise side project formed by seasoned musicians from the Dutch underground scene. The band consists of Wouter Davids (vocals/guitar), Freek De Greef (bass) and Frank Schilperoort (drums), musicians with roots in acts such as God Dethroned, Razorblade and Live By The Sword. With their debut Civilisation Ends Here, the trio immediately established themselves as a brutal new force within the underground, but on Total Fucking War they push everything even further.
Prior to the album’s release, Heathen Peace teased the record with two limited flexi singles: “Total Fucking War!” and “Heath Dweller”. Those releases already hinted at the direction of the new material: rawer, more aggressive and even more direct than before.
Total Fucking War sounds like Heathen Peace stripped away every unnecessary detail from their music until only pure destruction remained. In barely twenty-four minutes, the band unleashes eight tracks that feel like a face-melting offensive. From opening track “Total Fucking War!” it immediately becomes clear that subtlety plays no role here: relentless blastbeats, icy riffs and venomous vocals dominate the sound. Yet beneath all the chaos lies a surprising amount of control and musicianship.
Where many modern blackened death metal bands drown in technical excess, Heathen Peace keeps everything sharp and direct. The riffs are simple but highly effective, occasionally carrying melodic touches reminiscent of classic Scandinavian black metal, while the rhythm section constantly drives forward as if the songs could collapse into total chaos at any second. Tracks like “Rise of the Suebian Warlords” and “Apollyon” combine war-driven aggression with an almost epic atmosphere without ever losing their raw edge.
One of the album’s strongest aspects is its production. It sounds cold and clear at the same time: filthy enough to remain dangerous, yet powerful enough to make every riff and drum attack hit with full force. Frank Schilperoort’s drumming deserves particular praise, as his performance keeps the songs in constant motion and gives the album its militaristic intensity. Guest vocals by Henke Forss add an extra layer of darkness to the whole experience.
Lyrically, Total Fucking War revolves around heathen warfare, ancient gods and destruction, but the band never falls into cheap provocation. The atmosphere feels genuinely apocalyptic and primitive, as if the music originated from some forgotten battlefield somewhere between black metal and ancient war literature. The closing instrumental “Heathen Peace 476” serves as an icy aftermath to the devastation that came before it.
The album is available in several formats through multiple underground labels. The LP and CD editions are available through Cosmic Key Creations, while the cassette version is released through Zwaertgevegt. The previously released flexi singles also appeared through Cosmic Key Creations.
With Total Fucking War, Heathen Peace prove they are far more than a temporary side project. The album is short, violent and uncompromising, but that is exactly where its strength lies. No fillers, no modern gimmicks, just pure extreme metal executed with a clear vision. For fans of uncompromising blackened death metal, this is without question a release worth hearing.

De Nederlandse extreme-metalband Heathen Peace ontstond in 2024 als een compromisloos zijproject van ervaren muzikanten uit de Nederlandse undergroundscene. De band bestaat uit Wouter Davids (zang/gitaar), Freek De Greef (bas) en Frank Schilperoort (drums), muzikanten met wortels in onder meer God Dethroned, Razorblade en Live By The Sword. Met hun debuut Civilisation Ends Here zette het trio zichzelf direct neer als een brute nieuwe kracht binnen de Nederlandse underground, maar op Total Fucking War trekken ze werkelijk alle registers open.
Voorafgaand aan de release werd het album geteased met twee gelimiteerde flexisingles: “Total Fucking War!” en “Heath Dweller”. Daarmee gaf de band al vroeg een voorproefje van de richting die ze met dit nieuwe materiaal zouden inslaan: rauwer, agressiever en nog directer dan voorheen.
Total Fucking War klinkt alsof Heathen Peace elk overbodig detail uit hun muziek heeft verwijderd totdat alleen pure vernietiging overbleef. In amper vierentwintig minuten vuurt de band acht tracks af die voelen als een gezicht smeltend offensief. Vanaf opener “Total Fucking War!” wordt meteen duidelijk dat subtiliteit hier geen rol speelt: razende blastbeats, ijskoude riffs en diepe, giftige vocalen domineren het geluid. Toch schuilt er achter die chaos verrassend veel controle en muzikaliteit.
Waar veel moderne blackened deathmetalbands verdrinken in technische overdaad, houdt Heathen Peace alles direct en scherp. De riffs zijn eenvoudig maar effectief, met melodische accenten die soms doen denken aan klassieke Scandinavische black metal, terwijl de ritmesectie voortdurend vooruit rammt alsof de nummers elk moment kunnen ontsporen. Tracks als “Rise of the Suebian Warlords” en “Apollyon” combineren oorlogszuchtige agressie met een bijna epische sfeer, zonder ooit hun rauwe karakter te verliezen.
Een van de sterkste punten van het album is de productie. Die klinkt koud en helder tegelijk: vuil genoeg om gevaarlijk te blijven, maar krachtig genoeg om elke riff en drumaanval impact te geven. Vooral de drums van Frank Schilperoort verdienen aandacht; zijn spel houdt de nummers constant in beweging en geeft het album zijn militaristische intensiteit. Ook de gastvocalen van Henke Forss voegen extra duisternis toe aan het geheel.
Thematisch draait Total Fucking War om heidense oorlogvoering, oude goden en vernietiging, maar de band vervalt nergens in goedkope provocatie. De sfeer voelt oprecht apocalyptisch en primitief, alsof de muziek afkomstig is uit een vergeten slagveld ergens tussen black metal en oude oorlogsliteratuur. Het afsluitende instrumentale “Heathen Peace 476” vormt daarbij een ijzige nasleep van de totale ravage die eraan voorafging.
Het album is verschenen op verschillende formats via meerdere labels binnen de undergroundscene. De lp- en cd-versies zijn verkrijgbaar bij Cosmic Key Creations, terwijl de cassette-editie verkrijgbaar is via Zwaertgevegt. Met Total Fucking War bewijst Heathen Peace dat ze veel meer zijn dan een tijdelijk zijproject. Het album is kort, gewelddadig en compromisloos, maar precies daarin schuilt zijn kracht. Geen fillers, geen moderne franjes, alleen pure extreme metal met een duidelijke visie. Voor liefhebbers van compromisloze blackened death metal is dit zonder twijfel een release die gehoord moet worden.
