2025 was a good year for (Black) Metal. Several Dutch bands really stepped up their game and released some future classic albums and played memorable shows. This year also was the first time we organized a (small) dedicated Black Metal fest. While organising and setting up, the very much alive Black metal scene in the Netherlands helped without asking to promote this new event. Thank you very much!
1 Finistère – Am Grauen Meer
And on the end of the year we come to the inevitable end of year list, my top pick could have been any of those albums. But my number one for 2025 is Finistère – Am Grauen Meer. I’m always been a big fan of maritime (Black) metal. A subject I think is often overlooked as a theme for extreme metal. Am Grauen Meer, captures the listener from the opening track and does not let you go untill it is over, earning it the top spot on my list for 2025.
