From the bleak forest above the Oslo fjord, Norwegian entity KVAD will unleach their third full-lenght “Sort Skogmesse” on the world on the 31th of October through the German label “Purity Through Fire”
KVAD has been active since 2022 and is the brainchild of Perigrinus, who is also known from (but not limited to)Darkest Bethlehem and (currently) Heraldic Blaze.
KVAD has released two full-lenghts so far, “Cold & Dark, as Life” (2022) and “So Old” (2023) and an EP “Invocations”(2022). And those are nothing short of true raw, icy and hypnotic Norwegian Black Metal. A dense, icy wall of sound, haunting melodies, unsettling vocals and even an occasional dungeon synth passage…
You can almost feel the chilling wind blowing from the mountains with hint of burning church in the air… but enough about that let us focus on the forth coming “Sort Skogmesse”
On this release Perigrinus will be playing all instruments and vocals except for the drums, the sonic battery will be provided by Lord G on this album.
The opening track “Et Lys Slukkes” (a light goes out) starts of strong with a frosty atmosphere and raw lo-fi blackness. A balanced setup of midtempo, blastbeats, eerie repeating riffs and synths… setting the mood for the rest of the album. An aggressive, but also compelling melodic album that guide the listener through the songs.
Hi-light so far: “Ferden i det graa” (The journey in the gray)the fifth track on the album with a nice dungeon synth intro, which is reminiscent of early 90’s Norwegian Black Metal.
“Sort Skogmesse” runs a little over 40 minutes and although not groundbreaking it is a very well done album. Everything you want from a raw lo-fi Norwegian Black Metal album. So if you are in for this type of Black Metal, you will really enjoy this album.
