Folteraar is back. After an absence of no less than ten years, K, the man behind an impressive number of bands and projects, returns to the spotlight. Joining him is drummer G, known from the Limburg-based bands Witchfukker and Praefator.
In addition to his involvement in countless musical endeavors, K is also the driving force behind the obscure underground label The Throat. Through this label, the demo was released on a strictly limited cassette edition, entirely in keeping with the traditional underground Black Metal spirit.
With this return, Folteraar once again makes its presence known, proving that the flame has not been extinguished after a decade of silence. The demo breathes the same uncompromising atmosphere of obscurity and darkness that devotees of the genre have always cherished.
Raw Black Metal, wrapped in a suffocating wall of sound, descends upon the listener like an all-consuming storm from the very first notes. Merciless, uncompromising, and certainly not intended for the faint-hearted.
Following the sparse yet atmospheric introductory piece, Intrede, we are treated to three venomous Black Metal compositions unleashed under the illustrious titles Untitled I, II, and III. Expect no frills or unnecessary embellishments: Folteraar firmly embraces a raw and biting approach, where razor-sharp riffs, snarling and rasping vocals, and a filthy production merge into a remarkably convincing whole.
The songs embody the spirit of the old underground, sounding as if they were forged deep within a damp cellar or an abandoned mine shaft. Despite the primitive approach, the material contains more than enough dynamism and conviction to keep the listener engaged throughout. This is Black Metal as it was meant to be: cold, hostile, and thoroughly drenched in misanthropy. Absolutely glorious.
All of this is wrapped in Pieter Bruegel’s masterpiece The Triumph of Death, artwork that perfectly captures and reinforces the bleak atmosphere of the release… Mandatory!

Folteraar is terug. Na een afwezigheid van maar liefst tien jaar keert K, de man achter een indrukwekkend aantal bands en projecten, terug in de schijnwerpers. Daarbij wordt hij vergezeld door drummer G, die we kennen van de Limburgse bands Witchfukker en Praefator.
Naast zijn betrokkenheid bij talloze muzikale projecten is K tevens de drijvende kracht achter het obscure en undergroundgerichte The Throat-label. Via dit label verscheen deze demo in een strikt gelimiteerde cassette-uitgave, geheel in de geest van de traditionele underground Black Metal-scene.
Met deze terugkeer laat Folteraar opnieuw van zich horen en bewijst het project dat de vlam na tien jaar stilte nog lang niet gedoofd is. De demo ademt dezelfde compromisloze sfeer van obscuriteit en duisternis die liefhebbers van het genre zullen weten te waarderen.
Rauwe Black Metal, verpakt in een verstikkende muur van geluid, daalt als een allesverzengende storm op je neer zodra deze demo zijn eerste noten prijsgeeft. Ongenadig, compromisloos en allerminst geschikt voor tere zieltjes.
Na de weinig onthullende, maar sfeerscheppende intro Intrede worden we getrakteerd op drie venijnige Black Metal-composities die onder de illustere titels Ongetiteld I, II en III op de luisteraar worden afgevuurd. Verwacht geen franjes of overbodige opsmuk: Folteraar kiest resoluut voor een rauwe, bijtende aanpak waarbij scheermesscherpe riffs, grommende snerpende vocalen en een vuil geproduceerde klank samenkomen tot een bijzonder overtuigend geheel.
De nummers ademen de geest van de oude underground en klinken alsof ze rechtstreeks uit een vochtige kelder of verlaten mijnschacht zijn opgetrokken. Ondanks de primitieve aanpak zit er voldoende dynamiek en overtuiging in het materiaal om de aandacht vast te houden. Dit is Black Metal zoals het bedoeld is: kil, vijandig en doordrenkt van misantropie, heerlijk dit.
Alles verpakt in Pieter Bruegel’s Triomf van de Dood dat de sfeer nog eens lekker weergeeft….verplicht!
