The American/Australian band Faerie Magic is part of the mysterious collective *Cultus Caliginous Circle*, an underground circle that also houses names such as Ancient Necromancy, Cult of Thaumiel, Gharmelicht, Moonlight’s Empathy, Ozetmir, Silver Knight and Vulnakkthra. Within this obscure alliance of musicians and artists, a shared fascination for atmospheric darkness, mysticism and esoteric Black Metal lies at the very core of its existence.
From this impressive arsenal of bands emerges yet another collaboration. On *Upon the Black Soil*, Eldrinacht, The Seer and Angeldestruction join forces for the very first time. The three musicians, each of whom has already left their mark on the underground scene, combine their talents into a dark and immersive entity where raw aggression, melancholic melodies and ritualistic atmospheres seamlessly intertwine. The result is a work that not only reflects the spirit of the collective itself, but also adds a new dimension to the ever-expanding universe of *Cultus Caliginous Circle*.
The debut release consists of three compositions that together form a dark and promising introduction. *Faerie Realm Eternal* serves as a haunting opening piece, immediately establishing the mystical aura that lingers like a shadow over the entire release. This is followed by *Into the Marrow of Macabre*, a track that drags the listener even deeper into the abyss while offering a first true glimpse into the trio’s raw and unpolished Black Metal sound. The combination of razor-sharp riffs, primitive intensity and an almost ritualistic atmosphere gives the material a truly authentic underground character.
The absolute centerpiece, however, is the sprawling thirteen-minute closer *Crepuscular Harvest*. Within this epic composition, the trio demonstrates that there is genuine potential hidden beneath the raw exterior. While the performance may not always sound perfectly tight or technically refined, the band more than compensates for this with atmosphere, variation and conviction. The song continuously shifts between immersive passages, furious outbursts and melancholic moments, preventing it from becoming monotonous at any point. It is precisely this rough spontaneity that gives the release its own identity and proves that these musicians prioritize emotion and atmosphere over sterile perfection.
All in all, this is a strong first introduction to a promising new act, and it will certainly be interesting to see what the future holds for them.

De Amerikaans/Australische band Faerie Magic maakt deel uit van het mysterieuze collectief Cultus Caliginous Circle, een ondergrondse kring waarin tevens namen als Ancient Necromancy, Cult of Thaumiel, Gharmelicht, Moonlight’s Empathy, Ozetmir, Silver Knight en Vulnakkthra huizen. Binnen deze obscure alliantie van muzikanten en kunstenaars staat een gedeelde fascinatie voor atmosferische duisternis, mystiek en esoterische Black Metal centraal.
Uit dit indrukwekkende arsenaal aan bands ontstaat nu ook een nieuw samenwerkingsverband. Op Upon the Black Soilslaan Eldrinacht, The Seer en Angeldestruction voor het eerst de handen ineen. De drie muzikanten, die elk hun eigen stempel hebben gedrukt binnen de undergroundscene, bundelen hier hun krachten tot een duister en meeslepend geheel waarin rauwe agressie, melancholische melodieën en rituele sferen naadloos samenvloeien. Het resultaat is een werkstuk dat niet alleen de geest van het collectief weerspiegelt, maar tevens een nieuwe dimensie toevoegt aan het universum van Cultus Caliginous Circle.
De debuutrelease bevat drie composities die samen een duister en veelbelovend visitekaartje vormen. Faerie Realm Eternal fungeert als een sfeervolle introductie en zet meteen de mystieke toon neer die als een schaduw over de volledige release hangt. Vervolgens trekt Into the Marrow of Macabre de luisteraar dieper de duisternis in en vormt het nummer een eerste echte kennismaking met de rauwe, ongepolijste Black Metal van het trio. De combinatie van snijdende riffs, primitieve intensiteit en een haast ritualistische atmosfeer geeft het geheel een authentiek undergroundkarakter.
Het absolute sluitstuk is echter het ruim dertien minuten durende Crepuscular Harvest. In deze epische compositie laat het drietal horen dat er duidelijk potentieel aanwezig is. Hoewel het spel niet altijd even strak of technisch verfijnd klinkt, weet de band dit ruimschoots te compenseren met variatie, sfeer en overtuiging. Het nummer schakelt regelmatig tussen meeslepende passages, furieuze uitbarstingen en melancholische momenten, waardoor het nergens echt gaat vervelen. Juist die ruwe spontaniteit geeft de release een eigen charme en laat horen dat hier muzikanten aan het werk zijn die vooral de nadruk leggen op emotie en atmosfeer boven perfectie.
