The cover of Promo 2026 hardly gives away what is lurking behind it. François Boucher’s Rococo imagery radiates an almost carefree tranquillity, but once Existence I sets in, very little of that serenity remains. Indonesia’s Deathcrush opts for a raw and unpolished form of Black Metal in which melody and a cold, primitive atmosphere constantly intertwine.
Deathcrush is essentially the work of one person, Legion Of The Black Light, who handles all instruments and vocals on this promo. In just over ten minutes, three tracks are presented, simply titled Existence I, II and III. That choice works surprisingly well: rather than feeling like three completely separate compositions, Promo 2026 comes across as a single short movement divided into three parts.
The production is suitably rough, but never to the point where everything disappears into an impenetrable mess. The guitars possess the dry, grainy sharpness that suits this kind of Black Metal, while enough melody remains beneath the surface to give the material an identity of its own. Deathcrush does not constantly rely on speed either. It is especially when the pace drops and the riffs are allowed to linger that the music takes on a more hypnotic character.
Subtle synthesizers and noise elements occasionally emerge, but they never take control of the music. Instead, they function primarily as an additional atmospheric layer, reinforcing the impression that Deathcrush is trying to do more than simply produce yet another imitation of Scandinavian 1990s Black Metal. The foundations may clearly lie there, but the execution carries enough personality to stand on its own.
With three tracks and a running time of less than eleven minutes, Promo 2026 is over almost before you have properly settled into it. At the same time, that is exactly what a good promo should accomplish: show where a project currently stands and, above all, leave you curious about what might follow. Deathcrush succeeds on both counts. No grand declarations or excessive presentation, just ten minutes of raw, melodic and atmospheric Black Metal that lasts exactly long enough to make sure you remember the name.

De hoes van Promo 2026 doet in eerste instantie nauwelijks vermoeden wat erachter schuilgaat. Het rococo-tafereel van François Boucher straalt een bijna zorgeloze rust uit, maar zodra Existence I inzet, blijft daar weinig van over. Deathcrush uit Indonesië kiest voor een rauwe, ongepolijste vorm van Black Metal waarin melodie en een kille, primitieve sfeer voortdurend door elkaar heen lopen.
Achter Deathcrush gaat één persoon schuil, Legion Of The Black Light, die op deze promo alle instrumenten en vocalen voor zijn rekening neemt. In iets meer dan tien minuten worden drie nummers gepresenteerd die eenvoudigweg Existence I, II en III heten. Die keuze werkt verrassend goed: in plaats van drie volledig losstaande composities voelt Promo 2026 eerder als één korte beweging die in drie stukken is gehakt.
De productie is vanzelfsprekend ruw, maar niet zodanig dat alles verandert in een ondoordringbare brij. De gitaren hebben die droge, korrelige scherpte die bij dit soort Black Metal hoort, terwijl onder de oppervlakte voldoende melodie aanwezig blijft om de nummers een eigen gezicht te geven. Deathcrush zoekt daarbij niet voortdurend zijn toevlucht tot snelheid. Juist wanneer het tempo wat wordt teruggenomen en riffs langer mogen blijven hangen, krijgt de muziek iets hypnotiserends.
Af en toe duiken subtiele synthesizers en noise-elementen op, maar nergens nemen die de muziek volledig over. Ze functioneren voornamelijk als extra laag binnen de sfeer en versterken het gevoel dat Deathcrush iets meer probeert te doen dan simpelweg een zoveelste imitatie van Scandinavische jaren-negentig-Black Metal neer te zetten. De basis mag daar duidelijk liggen, maar de uitvoering heeft voldoende eigen karakter.
Met drie nummers en nog geen elf minuten is Promo 2026 natuurlijk voorbij voordat je er goed en wel in zit. Tegelijkertijd is dat precies de kracht van een goede promo: laten horen waar een project momenteel staat en vooral nieuwsgierig maken naar wat hierna komt. Deathcrush doet beide. Geen grootse verklaring of overdadige presentatie, maar tien minuten rauwe, melodieuze en sfeervolle Black Metal die precies lang genoeg duurt om ervoor te zorgen dat je de naam onthoudt.
