None of the dirt has been polished out of the sound here. As soon as Bloodsoaked Glory of the Horde erupts, the guitars push almost everything else aside. They sit very high in the mix and occasionally dominate it, but this is exactly what gives the album its dark and filthy atmosphere. The production is raw and unpolished without turning the music into an unnecessary mess.
Demented Yearning comes from Canada and is the continuation of Black Kruud. UE and Gamzhurm, both also active in Nächtlich, deliver their first full-length under the new name. The album originally appeared on vinyl through Vermignosis earlier this year and was later reissued on cassette by Deathful Lust. This cassette edition is limited to one hundred copies on blood-red tape.
Its five tracks have a combined playing time of just over 36 minutes. Most of the compositions are fairly long, but Demented Yearning never allows them to drag on endlessly. The pace remains high and the band keeps the music moving almost constantly. The guitars form a rough wall of sound from which the riffs repeatedly force their way forward.
Beneath those dominant guitars lies a surprisingly tight drum performance. The drums hold the longer tracks firmly together and prevent the music from becoming one impenetrable mass. The playing sounds controlled and precise, but thankfully never clinical. The raw production remains intact throughout, giving the instruments just enough space without removing any of the dirt.
The vocals are another strong point. They sound fierce, filthy and thoroughly convincing. They have to fight against the guitars to be heard, but that suits the suffocating character of the album. Everything appears packed tightly together, as though the music is trying to force itself through an opening that is far too small.
It is precisely the combination of tight drumming and unpolished production that works so well. The music has enough structure to hold your attention, yet never sounds clean or calculated. Demented Yearning has captured that dark and filthy old-school black metal sound and uses it to deliver five strong tracks.
Bloodsoaked Glory of the Horde brings nothing we have not heard before within the genre, but it is performed with complete conviction. There are no clean edges, modern shine or unnecessary decoration here—just a raw album that hits hard and, above all, sounds damn good.

Het vuil is hier nergens uit het geluid gepoetst. Zodra Bloodsoaked Glory of the Horde losbarst, drukken de gitaren bijna alles aan de kant. Ze staan behoorlijk hard in de mix en overheersen soms, maar juist daardoor krijgt de plaat die duistere, gore sfeer die bij deze muziek hoort. Het geluid is rauw en ongepolijst, zonder dat het geheel onnodig rommelig wordt.

Het tempo ligt flink hoog en de band houdt de vaart er vrijwel voortdurend in. De gitaren vormen daarbij een ruwe muur van geluid waaruit de riffs telkens weer naar voren komen.
Onder die overheersende gitaren zit een verrassend strakke drumpartij. De drums houden de langere nummers stevig bij elkaar en voorkomen dat de muziek verandert in één ondoordringbare brij. Het drumwerk klinkt gecontroleerd en precies, maar gelukkig nooit klinisch. De rauwe productie blijft overal overeind en geeft de instrumenten precies genoeg ruimte zonder het vuil uit het geluid te halen.
Ook de zang mag er zijn. De vocalen klinken fel, smerig en behoorlijk overtuigend. Ze moeten vechten tegen de gitaren om gehoord te worden, maar dat past juist goed bij het beklemmende karakter van de plaat. Alles lijkt dicht op elkaar te zitten, alsof de muziek zich met geweld door een te kleine opening naar buiten probeert te werken.
Juist de combinatie van de strakke drums en de ongepolijste productie werkt bijzonder goed. De muziek heeft voldoende structuur om de aandacht vast te houden, maar klinkt nergens netjes of berekend. Demented Yearning heeft die duistere, gore old-school blackmetalsound goed te pakken en weet er vijf sterke nummers mee neer te zetten.
Bloodsoaked Glory of the Horde brengt niets wat we binnen het genre nog nooit hebben gehoord, maar voert het wel met overtuiging uit. Geen nette randen, moderne glans of overbodige versiering, maar een rauwe plaat die flink doorpakt en vooral erg lekker klinkt.
