Review: Mylingen – Svartsyn EP

The duo Mylingen from Söderköping, Sweden, released their third offering last week since their formation in 2022.

Melodic Black/Death Metal, with an emphasis on Melodic and Black, fills this new EP titled Svartsyn.

The smooth production of the 26-minute EP creates an almost relaxed atmosphere that could even be described as soothing. By incorporating calm melodic interludes within the songs, the adrenaline levels momentarily drop.

While the title track and opener Svartsyn leans slightly towards Death Metal, Mörkets Spiralreveals Mylingen’s true face with a powerful blend of Black Metal and abundant melodic guitar sections.

During Hatets Avgrund, we get a slightly more traditional Norwegian sound, leaning somewhat towards late ’90s Enslaved. After a brief acoustic section, it roars one last time before coming to an end.

With Svartsyn, Mylingen delivers an impressive release that sounds highly convincing and boasts excellent production. It’s about time these guys get picked up by a label.
