A new band with their roots in Spain. They have released their first EP on the fourth of July, 2025. Let us take a dive into the music and see what they are all about.
With former members of Ouija (Fanthomless Hysteros was a great album!) on board a new adventure has arisen. Can they make a good impression?
Starting with the first track, ‘Profrane darkness’, the track starts with a synthesizer. Bit classical horror vibes to be created. And suddenly the band explodes! Raw guitars, dark vocals, and clean sounding drums. The way the soundscape shifts is a great piece of musicianship. The only thing that bothers me right away is the sound of the drums.
Every instrument sounds organic except the synths (understandably) and the drums. This gives me the feeling the drums are programmed instead of played by a person. As long as it fits the music that would not be a problem, it could be a preference of style. But on certain short breaks it really feels like a computer. The music itself has a great feeling, the atmosphere is great and every riff is well-thought. But I think this is a thing that holds the band back. Production value over authenticity gives room to unhumanize music. It does not sound bad at all, but I miss a lot of emotion in the music. All the parts try to keep up with a computer (or quantised drums). The loudness is too high, details tend to fade away.
The second track, ‘Path of redemption’ also starts with a synth, it does not really add to the overall vibe that suits the band. Only after this track came along ‘Where broken spirits lie’, finally a bit of a shift. No intro, the music hits spot on. The production is still flawed in my opinion, but for the first time the true band can be heard!
And then the last track of the EP, ‘Horizon’, yet again starts with a synth playing haunting notes. The distortion guitar mixes greatly into the harmonics, only the drums, again the drums, they sound too mechanical for what I think the band tries to portray. It is a shame, the riffs are there, the atmosphere is there, only the production really holds back the band. There are some great ideas and riffs but the binding element is missing.
For a first release not too bad, but a lot of work has to be done!
