Review: Siechknecht – Pestmond

Siechknecht is a new (black metal) band from Germany formed in 2025 by Revenant (also known for his work in Order of Nosferat and Sarkrista). So no stranger to the black metal scene and a lot of experience. For Siechknecht, Revenant recruited, Desmotes (Funeral Procession), Ifrit and Seuchefürst to form this new band.

They released a single “Verbrannte Reigen” in September of this year. As a teaser to this release, so this is their debut release. Let’s see if they can make a lasting impression.

Released on October 31st trough Purity trough Fire on CD, Tape (Worship Tapes) and digital on the known streaming platforms. 4 songs with a playing time little over 20 minutes.

The EP starts of with the single “Verbrannte Reigen” and most noticeable is the polished pagan/folk metal sound. Very clear (good) production. There is definitely black metal DNA but the dual guitars, folky melodies and clear commanding leads elevate this release to something more than just black metal. Sometimes that is just to much and does not work but in this case, it does. It does very well.
The title track “Pestmond” is another midtempo track. The question/answer vocals between Revenant and Desmotes work very well and with the slow/mid tempo you are fist pumping to this track in no time. With the dual guitars even feels like an Iron maiden track at some times.
The third track “Sieben Nägel und ein Gebet” is where we start of full blown black metal, blast beats and all. Only to be interrupted by a very catchy chorus with, yes even more dual guitars, by the end of the song you are singing along in now time.

The EP ends strong with “Segler der Nordmeere” which starts slow, and returns to the question/answer style of the title track. More dual guitars, and to top it of an outro with a long fast lead/solo.

So this release goes musically all over the place, it is not necessarily (True) black metal. But is has allot of black metal DNA. And is that a bad thing? No, it is not. Siechknecht’s Pestmond is a refreshing release. The mix of styles adds to the music, making me listen to it back tot back for days. Don’t be surprised if it ends up in the end of year list.

So for fans of more polished modern sounding (Black) metal in the likes of Kanonenfieber and Antrisch, this one is for you.
