The Canadian duo Anges de la Mort has been active since 2017 and released their debut album last year. Earlier this year, they also put out a split cassette with fellow Canadians Ifernach. Now, the Angels of Death return with new material, this time in the form of a demo containing two tracks.
The first of these, “Le Feu Sous la Glace,” is the more traditional black metal offering. The track leans heavily on the Scandinavian sound of the 1990s, radiating that characteristic icy atmosphere and raw intensity.
With “Sex & Death,” we’re dealing with a cover of the Motörhead track of the same name from their 1995 Sacrifice album. In Anges de la Mort’s interpretation, the song takes on a distinctly Black ’n’ Roll character, retaining the raw energy of the original while adding a darker, grainier black metal edge.
Whether a physical version of this single will appear remains uncertain. Personally, I don’t expect it; this seems more like a small in-between treat for the streaming platforms. Still, the material — especially in this compact form — would certainly work well as a 7” EP.
