From the same mind that brought you Hässlig comes Délirant, and if you thought Hässlig already left a foul taste in your mouth, take your time and listen to Délirant. While Hässlig unsettles you primarily through its rawness, Délirant achieves the same effect through its entire compositions.
Thougheater is the second album, crafted over seven years—an album filled with dissonant tones and deeply unsettling melodies. The slightly off-key guitar, floating above the mix, gives you the distinct feeling that your thoughts are indeed being devoured right out of your skull.
The seven-track album, released by the American label Sentient Ruin Laboratories, comes in a striking yellow cover, much like the 2018 debut. Unfortunately, the “yellow mist” vinyl edition is sold out, which is a shame because it looked really cool.
In terms of style, Délirant comes quite close to bands like Blut Aus Nord and Abigor, but at times, hints of Deathspell Omega also shimmer through the tracks. The tempos shift unpredictably, the atmosphere constantly changes, with that ever-present dissonant guitar sitting right on top of the mix. A sonic whirlwind that’s hard to escape from.
Once again, D.B. delivers a highly convincing album, leaving us to wonder what else this human bulldozer has in store. His projects Hässlig and Negativa are definitely worth keeping an eye on, alongside Délirant.
